How are volcanoes formed?

- 1 plate will go under and the other will rise above, the magma is formed on the lower part, on the tectonic plate that went under
3 Types of physical structure of a volcano
- There 3 types of how the volcanoes are composite, shield, cinder cones. (Types of volcanoes, November 10th 2004)
- The cinder cone volcano looks like a cone shaped mountain and it is usually 100 to 400 meters tall (USGS, 2011)
- Composite have both tephra and lava material when it erupts, it is 100-3500 meters tall (USGS, 2011)
- Shield volcano looks like a dome-shaped volcano like the ones in Hawaii, and are usually the highest ones at an average of 9000 meters.
